The Art of Mariska Karto:
I am born in Suriname, South America, and carry a rich cultural heritage. I have Surinamese, Indonesian, African and Dutch roots. Many cultures, many colors. That’s why all the colors of people in my work blend into one vibrant visual, that’s how I see the world.
An assignment for a perfume brand once took me to Venice. There, I was deeply moved by the baroque art, architecture, and layered history of the city. That experience stirred something profound in me and became a lasting source of inspiration that still shapes my artistic vision today.
My creative process is meticulously structured and deeply multidisciplinary. I construct my sets with great attention to detail, integrating my other artistic passions: charcoal drawing, working with gold, textiles, and advanced photo manipulation. Each piece I create brings all these elements together into a single, cohesive expression.

Mariska Karto started her career as photo artist in 2010 and in 2012 officially. In short time she has won various well known international awards (including the PX3 Prix De La Photographie De Paris, First place Gold Award, in complete category Professionals Fine Art) and is also nominated as Ambassador of tolerance in 2016.”
